A change in the winds

The 2012-2013 NBA season promises to be something special, some big moves have been made across the board changing the entire NBA landscape.
Many basketball fans may think the Knicks have had quiet offseason compared to most and many more Knicks may be questioning whether there was much point to adding a couple of oldies to an already aging roster. The youngest starter would be J.R. Smith at 26 and he may be shoved along by Ronnie Brewer who is a year older.
The Knicks super stars are 28 and 29 and some offseason signings in Camby and Kidd are a moment off 40. In my opinion this year must be the year it is all put together, coach Woodson needs to evolve the game plan and make it work with two of the best scorers in the NBA.
There is no hope for building for the future around a team that could only stay together for two-three years. In any sport all you have to do is get more points than the other team and you win simple, there are two aspect involved offense and defence.
The Knicks can score there is no doubt about that although there has been questions, more under D’antoni about efficiency.
Offense is not the problem, defence is where the Knicks can improve and that is where they have to improve if they want to challenge the Heat for the East. Defence is where Camby has built his career, his experience will help Stoudemire stand up next to Chandler in the paint; Kidd’s wisdom on the perimeter can help Felton step up his game at the defensive end as well. All that being said the last part to this new defensive identity is Ronnie Brewer. He is athletic and at 6’7 he can cover the three spot as well and in his twenty one minutes per game for the bulls last season he only turned the ball over 0.6 times a game, bringing patience to a sometimes trigger happy offence is considered a plus in my book.
When Shumpert is healthy and combines with brewer they should be able to shut down any perimeter combo in the league including the cross town Brooklyn back court. Ronnie brewer can also guard the more athletic point guards in the league which includes Russell Westbrook.
The Knicks did not simply sign the best possible player because they had money to spend, Camby, Kidd and Brewer are a step towards a better franchise not just for one season. They can all help develop an identity for the Knicks that other teams will fear and this will make the Garden the most feared home court in basketball.
The key to this Knicks season is Coach Mike Woodson getting all these pieces to gel, those words are even hard for me to type so implementing them will certainly lead to Woodson winning coach of the year.
As a diehard Knicks fan I hope it can be done because personally I do not want to return to a time were thirty wins was a good season. I have faith in this team hopefully others do too.
