Seminoles Ready To Take On Murray State

Just days away from the 6pm kickoff at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, the Florida State Seminoles are ready to show off why they are ranked seventh in the nation. Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher along with starting quarterback EJ Manuel addressed the media this past Monday in a weekly press conference on the Saturday night game – a weekly routine that will occur throughout the season.
Fisher briefly commented on the season opener against Murray State saying he was “anxious to get [the season] started.” Fisher also praised the Racers on their 7-4 season last year while making note that they have seven starters returning this season on defense as well as some on offense.
Within moments into the press conference Fisher was asked about the depth chart that had been released earlier Monday morning. Gathered media were quick to ask why Fisher had chosen to start Menelik Watson over Daniel Glauser for the starting right tackle position that was being competed over during all of fall camp. “He played the best,” Fisher deadpanned. “He played really well. Was having a good camp and Daniel Glauser, I think he has made tremendous strides; feel very comfortable putting him in the game. But I thought Menelike was definitely the most efficient and has very big upside. It’s amazing how quick he picked things up.”
Watson one of the most talked about players during fall camp was a former basketball player at Marist. The only football experience he has stems from the single year he played at Saddleback Community College. Not only was Florida State interested him, Division I coaches from across the country scouted him out to offer him a scholarship. Standing at 6-foot-6, 320-pounds Watson adds to the noticeable size difference of the offensive line this year. Opposite Watson is left tackle Cameron Erving, who is a former Defensive tackle. “They are bigger,” EJ Manuel said emphasizing on his new bookends. “That’s the biggest thing all the fans will notice when we break the huddle this Saturday. We have some size.”
Interestingly enough, Erving nor Watson have ever played in a major college football game as an offensive tackle, let alone started one. “They’ll both be nervous as crap” for Saturday’s season opener, Fisher joked, before validating his stance the shortage of experience shouldn’t hinder their performances.
