After closing out the preseason with a 6-3 victory over the New England Patriots Wednesday night, the Giants can now begin their title defense against Dallas in six days.
Winning and losing does not matter, but game four was a crucial game for all teams, who rested their starters and let their youngsters face off in a battle for roster spots.
Steve Weatherford – As always, Weatherford was fantastic. In the first half, he downed several punts inside the 20. He also had a very nice kick out of the Giants end zone following a terrible call by the replacement referees.
Adewale Ojoma – Ojomo secured himself a roster spot on the Giants Wednesday night. With Adrian Tracy injured, Ojomo has been getting more snap and more attention, and he has made the most of it. He made a nice sack and forced a fumble on the same play.
Rocky Bernard and Linval Joseph – Both men did not play a lot, but they look healthy, rested and mid-season already. Both are playing at a high level of intensity and will bring a new addition of tenacity to this Giants defensive line.
Mark Herzlich – although he may not win the starting position, he looks to be the future MLB for the Giants. He has been spectacular this preseason and has led the reserves to some really nice defensive stops. He made a couple nice stops, the biggest coming on a screen in the third quarter.
Ramses Barden – in limited play, Barden produced and led the receivers in catches, targets and receiving yards. He has secured hi roster spot and maybe the third receiver position.
Jacquian Williams – Going into his second season, Williams looks to be a more polished linebacker. He was thrown into a starting role his first year and delivered. He is an excellent coverage linebacker and displayed incredible athleticism in pass coverage Wednesday night. Look for him to come in on passing downs and use his speed and coverage skills during the season.
Mitch Petrus – Petrus had a rough game allowing Eli Manning to take some rough hits. The offensive line has been a question this offseason and with Petrus already on the fence, it looks as if he may have cost himself a roster spot with a poor performance.
Martellus Bennet – Bennet had his worst game as a Giant to date. He dropped a wide open pass and also missed a blocking assignment which lead to Manning getting hit. It’s just preseason and he will be a huge asset to this team. Hopefully he rebounds next week.
