O’s win the White Sox series as well as set new individual milestones

The O’s needing a win before heading to the Big Apple to face the Yankees in their next series won today by a score of 5-3 over the White Sox. Baltimore won the series over the Chicago three games out of four and six games out of eight for the season series, the best the Orioles have ever done against the White Sox in a season since 1999 (7-3). Many Oriole players stood out in this game and achieved individual milestones to help bring home the victory both batting and pitching.
Orioles starting pitcher Zach Britton pitched eight, one run innings giving up seven hits, no walks and a career-high ten strikeouts earning the win to improve to 4-1 on the season. He has now won his last three starts and remains unbeaten when facing the White Sox. Britton will be sent back to Triple-A Norfolk to make room for newly acquired veteran, left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf. This move was more of a paperwork move, so Britton should be back soon to pitch and show what more he can do. Was Britton’s start and amount of strikeouts a fluke? The TV commentators during the game kept noting on how the Sox were swinging and striking out on terrible pitches that were thrown in the dirt.
Adam Jones hit his 26th homer of the season in the game today off Jose Quintana, a career-high for him for homers in a single season. The O’s are now 19-6 this season when Jones homers in the game. Another individual milestone for the O’s was Taylor Teagarden going 2-3 with a solo HR and and a RBI double, he has known to come through for the O’s when they need him to. There was the 2-run walk-off homer on July the 14th against Detroit in the 13th inning and the go-ahead double earlier this month in the Rays game which the O’s won in 10 innings 1-0. Teagarden played in place of Matt Wieters who had the day off because of the fact that it was a day game after he had played the game before. It seems to be the right move not playing Wieters in day games because the O’s with this win are now 24-12 in day games this season, which is the best in the American League.
Baltimore now remains in the second Wild-Card spot in the American League and also in second place in the American League East. They are just three games behind the Yankees for first in the division and they head to New York tomorrow to open up a three game series which is very important for the O’s to win for a chance to move up to first place. The O’s will face pitchers: Kuroda, Garcia and Phelps of the Yankees, times for the games are Fri: 7:05 pm, Sat: 1:05 pm, and Sun: 1:05 pm.
