Less than 24 hours after finalizing their 53 man roster, the New York Giants have announced they have waived offensive lineman Mitch Petrus. Replacing him on the roster is offensive tackle D.J. Jones, who was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mitch Petrus, a fifth round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, struggled throughout the preseason and training camp. Petrus had high potential with his strength and energy, but couldn’t seem to grasp the Giants’ assignments and regressed throughout the preseason. Petrus did himself no favors by missing several assignments during a 6-3 victory over the New England Patriots. We at Prosportsblogging speculated whether or not he would lose his job after the shaky showing.
Replacing Petrus on the Giants 53 man roster is offensive tackle D.J. Jones, who was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins in 2011. The 6-5, 310 lbs. lineman was waived by the Eagles on Friday to finalize their roster. Jones started 14 games at right tackle at Nebraska his senior season, and was considered a “size Prospect” who needed a lot of work.
