Texas Longhorns opens its season on September 1, at 7:00p against Wyoming Cowboys. Correct the Cowboys are coming to town. That would be the boy’s thousand of miles north of Austin. They actually bring in a very good team. Wyoming finished 3rd last year in the Mountain West Conference behind Boise State and TCU. They finished the season with a lost in the Gilden New Mexico bowl game.
They are a team that likes to spread the offense and a very good quarterback in Smith. He is a good passer and runner. He threw for almost 3,000 yards and rushed for over 700. He may be the best quarterback in his conference this year. He protects the ball fairly well and has a high completion percentage. He has experience receivers to throw. The biggest question mark on offense will be the inexperience running backs. They have a good offensive line lead by the center Nick Carlson, one of the best in the country.
The Cowboys defensive is going through a change from last year. They have a new defensive coordinator in Chrs Tormey . He likes to mix things up. The defensive line was a weak spot last year and they hope to have improved at that position with two experience lineman in Mike Purcell and Josh Biezuns. They have an experience secondary and a good one in, Luke Ruff. The defense must improve on both the run and pass. They also need to create more turnovers.
Texas is going for its 13 straight opener win. I am expecting the offense of Texas to establish the running game early. I don’t expect for the Longhorns to throw a lot. The defense must establish themselves on the line of scrimmage. They will have there hands full with Smith throwing the ball all over the field. This game will not be close. I expect Texas to win by 20 points. I also expect Texas to score at least 40 points.
