Buffalo Bills Cuts, Predictions and Super Bowl Pick

The way I see it, going winless in the preseason was a good thing. The Bills were able to get all the losing and bad players out of the way and are now ready to go full tilt this Sunday against the Jets.

Were you surprised by the cuts?

The biggest surprise for me was back up defensive lineman Dwan Edwards.

Good Luck!

Cutting Edwards frees up about 5 million, which now can be used to secure some up and coming rookies.  Goon squad member Naaman Roosevelt and Buffalo’s 5th and 6th round picks, Tank Carder and Mark Asper were also among those cut.

Were you surprised who they kept?

There were only 2 that stood out for me. Tyler Thigpen took a pay cut  to stay on as the Bills back up since they have moved Brad Smith to more of a receiver/wildcat specialist it made sense to keep Thigpen. Kicker John Potter is a great addition to the Bills. He had 11 of his 13 kickoffs in the preseason result in touchbacks ( something the Bills desperately needed) making him the ideal candidate to replace veteran Rian Lindell in the future.

The roster is set and all the pieces are in place to put Buffalo back on the map and take us to the playoffs, but how will the season play out?

Here’s what I think.

We’ll see wins over the Jets, Chiefs, Browns, Cardinals and Titans going 5-2 heading into the bye week. This will result in writers, broadcasters and Bills haters to compare this team to last years, with one difference, they will be in the top 5 in defense and  top 10 in offense.  Realistically, Buffalo could go 6-3 the second half  defeating the Dolphins twice, Jaguars, Colts, Rams, Seahawks bringing  them to 11-5 on the season and bolting them to the playoffs. After that who knows? In order for this to happen they have to stay healthy, something they had a hard time doing last year. I can’t guarantee they would have made the playoffs last year but funny that after Fitzpatrick got hurt in the Washington game they lost 8 of 9.  Adding to the injury list were: Jackson, Merriman, Wood, Parrish, Easley, Lindell, McGee, Williams and Troup. Dareus also admitted to playing much of the season with injuries. Let’s keep our fingers crossed all season for a playoff game, it’s been way too long, but you already know that.

Who will win the Super Bowl?

Not that the Giants got lucky last year, but to win your last 2 games of the season, squeak into the playoffs and beat the New England Patriots again in another upset, luck must have played a role. Lighting won’t strike twice and the Giants will not repeat. Nothing would make me happier to declare  my Buffalo Bills as Super Bowl Champs but I see the Green Bay Packers over the Baltimore Ravens this year.

Stay tuned later this week 1 preview of the Jets vs Bills.

Till then GO BILLS GO!
