Cardinals Week 1 Preview: Seattle

FOOTBALL IS OFFICIALLY BACK!!
With all due respect to baseball, America needed its NFL back. Just when the dog days of summer couldn’t go any slower, fantasy football drafts and conversations as to why your coworker’s team sucks swoop in to save the day. Kickoff in Arizona starts this Sunday as The Cardinals take on The Seattle Seahawks at University of Phoenix Stadium at 4:25 ET time (1:25 Az time). So what’s going to happen on Sunday? Will the Cardinals come out strong or flat? These predictions are simply out of my reach. Lucky for you, I called everyone’s favorite infomercial psychic, Miss Cleo, and asked her exactly that.
What did that vivacious, Rastafarian tele-psyhcic tell me about the Cardinal’s chances?
“The Cardinals are fortunate enough to start the season against a rookie quarterback, Russell Wilson, but Wilson was impressive in the preseason and wouldn’t surprise anyone if he plays well. Seattle’s starting running back, Marshawn Lynch, is uncertain to play due to back spasms. If he can’t play look for the Cardinals defense to take advantage of Seattle’s lack of a running threat. With Wilson being named the starter just a week ago nobody outside of the Seahawks knows what to expect out of their offense. I expect the Cardinals defense to give up one or two big plays because of Wilson’s athletism in the pocket, but think they’ll play very well overall and put the Cardinals in a great position to win.”
But what about The Cardinals offense, Ms. Cleo?
“Hopefully the 4th quarter play-making John Skelton shows up for the whole game, because if he does I think the Cardinals will bring home a win. Beanie Wells is slated to start at running back, with Ryan Williams getting plenty of touches as well. If Arizona can establish a strong running attack with its underrated depth at the tailback position then expect Skelton and Larry Fitzgerald to use the deep play-action pass downfield more than once. Bottom line: if the Cardinals want to win they need to establish their running game and feed off it.”
10 minutes and $79.99 later I found myself puzzled, if she was a psychic how does she not know what to expect from Seattle’s offense or if Lynch will play or not? To which she replied, “Who do you think I am, John Clayton?” and then hung up. Guess I know who I should call next time.
Miss Cleo still gave me enough info to ride with though, and I think the Cardinals win a tough one, 20-17. Expect Patrick Peterson to leave a mark on this game in some way, he’s that talented.
