The Beginning of the Intrigue…

Are you ready?? I said, “Are you ready??” Then let’s get ready to talk about the 2012 Miami Dolphins!!!!!!!!! The Dolphins are one of the NFL’s proudest franchises of all-time, but over the last 12 years; misery, helplessness, and despair have reared it’s ugly head over this team..
Since Legend Dan Marino retired in 1999, after a demoralizing playoff loss to the Jaguars, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Dolphins , from 2000-2011, they have gone 92-100 (48%), and made 3 playoffs appearances (2000, 2001 and 2008). In 2007, they went 1-15, but in 2008, they went 11-5 (won the division and became the 1st team in NFL history to win their division and make the playoffs after winning only 1 game the year prior). Last year, they lost their 1st 7 games and managed to win 6 games. That was last year and this is a brand-new season full of intrigue.
Since Jimmy Johnson left in 1999, 7 new coaches have arrived in 12 years. Rookie Head Coach Joe Philbin, formerly the offensive coardinator of the Packers in now number 7. He was Dolphins’ management 2nd choice after they lost out on acquiring Jeff Fisher, formerly of the Titans, who took the Rams job.
This offseason was like a daytime drama for the Dolphins. Owner Stephen Ross is always looking for a star, in which he thinks will attract other stars to come to Miami. He has GM Jeff Ireland to handle the personal duties. Ross, last offseason tried to sign Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh to a
mega-contract, while he had a coach (Tony Sparano) in place. He tried unsuccessfully to sign QBs Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn, and Alex Smith this offseason. To add to the intrigue; The Dolphins accepted HBO’s offer to be on the summer show “Hard Knocks.”
They traded Superstar, but troubling WR Brandon Marshall to the Bears before the draft. To try take his place, they signed the “Mouth from the South” Chad Johnson, but he was released due to a domestic violence charge against his wife. They traded Promising, but troubling CB Vontae Davis to the Colts. They released their number 1 tackler in S Yeremiah Bell. They signed QB David Gerrard to challenge incumbent starter Matt Moore for the top QB position, but he was released because he had bad knees and Moore is now the backup to the “New Face” of the franchise; the 8th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft Ryan Tannehill.
Tannehill, is the man at QB. He has the benefit of the knowing the West Coast offense, which has been installed by coach Philbin and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, who coincidentally was Tannehill’s coach at Texas A & M. Tannehill has only played 19 career games at the position, but he is young, athletic, has strong arm, and very intelligent. He does have playmakers on his side such as: RB’s Reggie Bush (whose goal is to lead the league in rushing), Daniel Thomas, WR’s Devone Bess and Brian Hartline, TE’s Anthony Fasano and Charles Clay. Nothing flashy, but effective. He needs to have his offensive line anchored by: All-Pro LT Jake Long and C Mike Pouncey, protecting him and keeping him upright. Ryan is the 1st Dolphin Rookie Quarterback to start the regular season. In the preseason: 41-78 (52.6%), 414 yards, TD, INT, 4 sacks.
The Dolphins have always had solid defense teams. This year, new defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, has at his disposal: newly signed All-Pro DE Cameron Wake, and All-Pro Linebacker Karlos Dansby. He has NT Randy Starks, CB Sean Smith and LB Kevin Burnett as well.
GM Jeff Ireland took a lot of heat this offseason for all the moves the team made, but he and coach Philbin want to bring a new attitude to this team. Basically, show up and play hard. The Dolphins in my mind, are going to make life hard for a lot of teams. They know they are the underdogs, and believe me, when I say this: “Overlook them, and the Fish will be biting that day!!”
This article: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/sfl-miami-dolphins-staff-predictions-20120828,0,3903215.htmlstory; gives predictions by some of the staff at sun-sentinel.com. For example, 2 of sun-sentinel’s top Dolphin writers: Dave Hyde predicts they will go (5-11), and Omar Kelly predicts (7-9).
On Sunday, they face the Houston Texans, who is (6-0) lifetime against the Dolphins. Led by QB Matt Schaub, RB Arian Foster, and WR Andre Johnson, and good young defense, provides a good lithmus test for Mr. Tannehill and the Dolphins. You want to establish yourself in the NFL, beat what some experts say, “The Team that will be representing the AFC in the Super Bowl”.
My prediction for the opening game is: The Dolphins get off to a great start, by upsetting the Texans, by a score: 24-17. Tannehill goes 20-27, 250 yards, 2TD’s. Bush goes for 100 yards on 25 carries and scores a TD. Defense sacks Schaub 4 times, and gets an INT.
I am always going to predict that Dolphins will win each week. More than likely that won’t happen every week, nevertheless I will NEVER ROOT AGAINST MY TEAM that I LOVE. I am a proud Dolphins’ fan, what can I say!! I predict that the Dolphins will go 9-7 and make the playoffs as a 6th seed.
