Watch out for the underdog

Tom Brady and the Patriots will open their season with a game against the Tennessee Titans. The Titans have decided to make the Jake Locker era official (taking the job from Matt Hasselbeck who is only one-year older than Brady). Even though Locker is going to face the favorite to win the Super Bowl, I don’t think their could be a better place for him to begin.
The Patriots had the worse passing D in the NFL. Everyone threw all over them. While, they may have improved it, this is not yet a proven D. Locker may be able to find a few empty seams that the new guys forgot to cover or the old guys never covered in the first place.
He also gets to start at home. He will have the home crowd cheering him on and this confidence may give him a boost. This, along with playing against childhood idol Brady, may focus him enough to score some points.
Finally, Locker has a healthy and healed Chris Johnson behind him. Who knows how much he would have struggled last year if he were playing with no Chris Johnson. I mean, Hasselbeck and the team crumbled. Loosing 4 of their last 5 and taking themselves out of the playoffs. That could have crushed his confidence and the fan’s confidence in him. But, Johnson is healthy and Locker can feel secure knowing the offense is not solely in his hands.
In the end, this is going to be a nail bitter. Bet on it. New England is favored by a little less than a TD and is expected to score about 28 points. I think it is always possible, but the running game is a big question mark. The Titans will be able to slow the game down and Locker will make some passes against this still shady secondary. Watch out for this one everyone. 21-20 Titans with the upset and Locker makes a star’s debut.
