Minnesota needed a miraculous finish last week just to snatch a victory from the Jaguars in the Metrodome.  This week they head to Indianapolis where they will face off against Andrew Luck and the Colts.  Don’t expect the same kind of finish to this game.  On the road, the Vikings will need to put together a complete game to come out on top.

Adrian Peterson made his return to the NFL last week and he looked very good against Jacksonville.  AP had 17 carries last week and the Colts can expect to see about the same number on Sunday.  Viking’s QB Christian Ponder is coming off of a solid effort and he will need to outplay Luck if the Vikings expect to win on the road.  Look for him to spread the ball around with Percy Harvin and Kyle Rudolph both getting plenty of opportunities.  Harvin will also get plays out of the backfield as the Vikes try to put the ball in his hands as much as possible.

The biggest key to the game is defense.  Jared Allen never got close to the QB last week.  He and the rest of the front seven need to put some heat on Luck.  The Colt’s #1 pick made mistakes last week in Chicago, but the Bears kept pressure on him.  Outside of WR Reggie Wayne, Luck doesn’t really have any weapons.  Minnesota doesn’t want to give a young QB any confidence as he plays in front of the home crowd for the first time(regular season).  Last week, the Vikings did get pressure by blitzing DB’s and LB’s, and I’m sure they are going to throw all kinds of different looks at Luck.

Winning on the road in the NFL is never easy.  Minnesota hasn’t won very much over the past two season’s, so they shouldn’t ever be overconfident.  This is a very winnable road game and would put the Vikings at 2-0 for the first time since 2009, which was the last time they made the playoffs.  I think Minnesota
