Through 2 weeks of football, the Houston Texans might just be the best team in the NFL. They haven’t even played a “great game” in my opinion. They came out looking really sloppy against Miami last week but cleaned it up and steam rolled them. Against Jacksonville, Andre Johnson only had 3 catches for 21 yards but the Texans didn’t need a big game out of Schaub or Andre. If the Texans can put week 1′s passing game and week 2 rushing attack together and keep the defense playing at the level it is then watch out! That is why I say they haven’t played a “great game” yet but they haven’t necessarily needed to in the first two weeks.
Nevertheless, the Texans defeated the Jags 27-7 and dominated on defense. Maurice Jones-Drew had 60 yards on 12 carries but simply didn’t get enough touches to really make an impact. Blaine Gabbert looked awful, going 7 for 19 for 53 yards and a TD but he was getting beat up all day long by the Texans who sacked him 3 times. Chad Henne came into the game for Gabbert because of an apparent injury. If I was Gabbert I might have faked an injury to get out of there too!
Today was a day of the running backs for Houston. Arian Foster had 28 carries and 110 yards and a TD while Ben Tate had 12 carries for 74 yards and 2 TD’s. Still wasn’t a great day yards per carry wise for Foster but the Texans will certainly take it. The Texans had control of the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball all day long. Matt Schaub was 26-35 for 195 yards, he didn’t have the big plays in the pass game but again he didn’t need it. Owen Daniels lead the way in receiving with 6 catches for 47 yards; Foster also had 6 receptions. Houston had the ball for 43 minutes in the game and Jacksonville had it for 16 minutes. The Texans defense only had 31 tackles in this game, and that shows you how one-sided this game really was. Now Houston is preparing for an old foe in Peyton Manning, as the Texans travel to Denver next Sunday.
