The Black Hole got SMASHED by a Fearsome Foursome!!!

A new threat to NFL Teams has arrived in South Beach. It is known as the FEARSOME FOURSOME (which I am giving the proper name too); led by Reggie Bush, Ryan Tannehill, Brian Hartline and Lamar Miller.

Sun Life Stadium was the place to be today, as the Dolphins smashed the Oakland Raiders 35-13 in the Fearsome Foursome’s home debut. I was screaming so loud at all the great plays. Then again, I always do that. The game changed in the 2nd half for both the offense and defense. I also love being right!! As I wrote in the preview post, I wanted Reggie Bush to run the ball down the Raiders’ throats and I was 100% percent right!!!

Reggie Bush, who said a few months ago, he wanted to lead the league in rushing this year, backed his theory up today big time. His line for the day: 26 carries (career-high), 172 yards, 2TD’s; 3 catches, 25 yards. It was his 6th straight game with 100+ yards from scrimmage.

The Dolphins turned up the intensity in the 2nd half, and in a span of 4:12 in the 3rd quarter, Bush took the game over. It started with an absolutely sick 23 yard Touchdown run, breaking tackles like Barry Sanders. He threw the ball in the crowd and screamed as his name was being chanted. Then, on the next possession, he switched the ball into his left hand, took the pitch left, hit the gap and ran 65 yards for the Touchdown. As he scored, he plopped to ground in a spread eagle formation. It was so cool to watch. He broke the game open. His 2 TD’s made the game 21-10 at the point. You can see the Bush highlight package here: http://www.miamidolphins.com/media/videos/Week_2_Reggie_Bush_highlights/af5cd22a-d9d9-4a55-884b-bf0814cf4374 [1]; and http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap1000000062616/Bush-65-yard-TD-run [2]

According to espn.com, http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=320916015 [3]; his 2nd rush TD of 65+ yards with the Dolphins (had one last year). He is the only Dolphins player with multiple rush TD of 65+ yards in a career.

With the score 21-10 thanks to Bush, Tannehill threw his 1st NFL TD to Anthony Fasano for 14 yards at the 11:45 mark of the 4th quarter. Tannehill locked eyes on Fasano, who was as open as outdoor tennis court and threw him a perfect strike. You can see Ryan’s TD pass here:http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap1000000062634/Fasano-TD-catch. [4]

Ryan played a solid game in his home debut, as the Dolphins changed the offense up today by using a no-huddle approach. It worked. It was a Very efficient day for Ryan: 18-30, 200 yards, TD; No Turnovers, 91.0 Passer Rating. The offensive kept him upright for particulary all game (only 1 sack). Tannehill moved around all day and even threw a ball sidearm to Bush (for 3 yards) as he was falling down.

On the Opening Drive of the game, 3rd and 2 at the Raiders 2; Tannehill on a naked bootleg, scored his 1st ever rushing Touchdown. It came at the 9:19 mark of the 2nd quarter to put the Dolphins up 7-0. You can see his TD run here: http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap2000000061597/Tannehill-TD-run. [5]  Ryan was clicking on all cylinders today especially with WR Brian Hartline.

Hartline was the go-to-guy for Tannehill today early and often. Hartline who missed most of the offseason with a knee injury has found an instant connection with Ryan. Today, he caught 9 balls for 111 yards (long of 21 and 12.3 Avg). It was like watching pitch and catch between a son and father. Nice and easy. Ryan was calm in the pocket and he knew that Brian was there to catch the ball. The Raiders couldn’t stop them.

Today, also marked the debut of 4th round pick RB Lamar Miller. Miller, who was inactive last week, showed up to the party and helped smash the Raiders’ defense. Miller, was drafted for his speed out of the University of Miami, showed it with his 15 yard Touchdown with 5:06 left in the game. His line: 10 carries, 65 yards (long of 19), and a TD. You can see his TD here: http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap1000000062665/Lamar-Miller-TD-run [6]

Both Bush and Miller wouldn’t have as productive as they were without Rookie Jovorskie Lane, who delivered countless punishing blocks to free up lanes for them.

The offense was phenomenal in the 2nd half, after a shaky 1st half (even though the did score a TD), and the defense dialed it up in the 2nd half also, after a slow start.

The Raiders knew they were going up against one of the best run defenses in the NFL, and they tried to run, but is miserable for them. The Dolphins held star RB Darren McFadden to 11 carries for 22 yards and held them Raiders collectively to 14 carries for 23 yards total.

Raiders QB Carson Palmer threw the ball 48 times completing 24 and had 373 yards, as well a TD and an INT. He threw a screen pass to RB Mike Goodson, with poor tackling by Miami, ran it for 64 yards. That was their big play.

Even though they didn’t sack Palmer, the Dolphins made him move all over the place. The secondary was being torched in the 1st half, came out in the 2nd half and helped change the game. They made some big time plays. Breaking up key passes to stop drives, and S Rashard Jones had an interception.

It was like watching poetry in motion. The Fearsome Foursome arrived and made the Black Hole disappear for good.

After going winless in preseason (0-4), and losing the opener, Coach Philbin got his 1st victory today, in the 1st of many more to come. That was the Dolphins’ 1st home opener victory since 2005.
