Suns Lose Channing Frye “Indefinitely”
Posted By Thomas Mitchell On Sep 20 2012 @ 8:45 pm In NBA,Phoenix Suns | No Comments
The Phoenix Suns announced today on their website that power forward Channing Frye has an enlarged heart and would not be re-evaluated until December, causing him to miss most of the regular season and possibly all of it. Frye’s condition was discovered during a routine physical by Phoenix’s cardiologist and he will be monitored closely by specialists to ensure a healthy recovery. Frye’s a local product out of St. Mary’s High School (Phoenix) and brings much needed spacing to the floor with his size & long-range shooting, both of which will be sorely missed this season.
Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby echoed the organizations concern for Frye’s future, stating: “Nothing is more important to us than the health and well-being of our players. Channing and his family have the full support of our organization, his health is our primary concern and we are committed to helping him in any way he needs.”
It’s rough seeing such unfortunate luck for a good guy and key contributor to the Suns, but after all of the recent knowledge on the potentially fatal repercussions of playing basketball with a heart condition (especially at the highschool & college level) Phoenix is definitely making the right move. The last thing anyone wants is another Hank Gathers situation (RIP). Guys like Ronny Turiaf and Jeff Green have returned to the NBA from various heart conditions so let’s hope Channing can make a smooth return to the NBA.
