New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan announced that All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis has suffered an ACL tear.
The injury occurred in the third quarter of yesterday’s 23-20 win against the Miami Dolphins. While attempting to tackle running back Daniel Thomas Revis appeared to slip before ever making contact.
He had already suffered a concussion earlier in the season, but was able to return after missing just one game. After this injury, though, he’ll be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
This is a devastating blow for the Jets. Not only is Revis their best defensive back, he’s also one of the leaders on the field and in the locker room.
Kyle Wilson will now take over the starting role with Antonio Cromartie on the other side. The third-year cornerback has some big shoes to fill, but it’s going to take a full team effort to make up for the loss of Revis.
