Jets Get It Done

The New York Jets snuck away with this one.
They lived to see another play when Miami Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter missed a field goal in overtime. On the ensuing possession the Jets dodged another bullet when Miami blocked Nick Folk’s field goal attempt, but guess what? The Dolphins called a timeout and Folk was given another chance to seal the deal.
The kicker booted a 33-yard field goal and the Jets got a much needed 23-20 victory against their division foe.
They were trailing for the better part of this game, but proved why it’s not over till it’s over.
Through three quarters the offense struggled to put points on the board. They received some help from the defense though. Safety LaRon Landry made a great defensive play when he intercepted a Ryan Tannehill pass and returned it 18 yards to the house.
The Jets were able to keep Tannehill in check all game even with Darrelle Revis leaving in the third quarter. The rookie completed 16 of 36 passes for 196 yards and zero touchdowns.
On the ground they allowed the Dolphins to rack up 185 yards with a 4.3 average. Reggie Bush was off to a great start, 10 rushes for 61 yards, but left the game in the second quarter after suffering a knee injury. He never returned and that definitely hurt the Dolphins’ offense.
Mark Sanchez redeemed himself late in the game after looking shaky almost the entire afternoon. In the fourth quarter he led the Jets down the field and completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Kerley to take the lead with 3:01 left.
Although Sanchez finished with 306 yards he also threw two interceptions and completed only 21 of his 45 attempts. One of those attempts was to Tim Tebow, but ended in an incompletion after bouncing off his helmet.
Tebow helped move the chains in the second quarter when the Jets called a fake punt. He received the direct snap and ran for five yards, helping to extend a drive that ultimately ended in a field goal.
This wasn’t the prettiest game, but a win is a win. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just get it done and at 2-1 the Jets have found themselves at the top of the AFC East.
