Turnoveritis was in the Cards; as the Fins get clipped by the Cards in OT!!

Another HEART-BREAKER!!! Another Tough Loss in OT as the Dolphins lose 24-21 to the Cardinals; on a record-setting day by Ryan Tannehill and Brian Hartline.. These last 2 two heartbreakers are getting to the point like my New York Mets’ bullpen this year; which could have given me several HEART-ATTACKS by now. They blew 2 leads in the last 2 games. Mets’ have blown a ton of leads all year.

On the BRIGHTER SIDE of things: Ryan Tannehill, Brian Hartline, Cameron Wake and Sean Smith had career days.

Tannehill had a day to remember with INCREDIBLE numbers passing, but 3 killer turnovers. He looked like another coming of Dan Marino, as he went 26-41 (63.4%), 431 yards (1 shy of NFL rookie record), TD, passing of (86.5), 2 INT’s (1 in OT), and a fumble. Look at these highlights: http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap1000000067815/Week-4-Ryan-Tannehill-highlights. [1]

I called for them in my pre-game blog to air it out and they did. The no-huddle was in use, and he was bombing it all over the field. He looked POISED, CONFIDENT, AND EXCITED for most of the game. He was in sync with Hartline (12 catches, 253 yards (franchise-record), TD; Bess (7 catches, 123 yards), and Fasano (5 catches, 30 yards). He broke Dan Marino’s rookie passing record of 322 yards, which happened 10/9/83. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-dolphins-cardinals-1001-20120930,0,7752633.story [2].

Look at these tidbits I got from espn.com, http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=320930022. [3]

Ryan Tannehill [4] faced extra pressure on 25 of his 44 dropbacks and completed 16-of-22 passes for 306 yards, a touchdown and an interception against at least five pass rushers. Tannehill’s 306 passing yards against at least five pass rushers is the highest single-game total by anyone
since the start of the 2008 season. More impressive for Tannehill is who it came against–entering Sunday, the Cardinals’ defense led the league with a 34.1 completion percentage and 3.6 yards per attempt allowed when sending at least five pass rushers.  [+] [5]

Ryan Tannehill [4] vs 5+ Pass Rushers

This Season
1st 3 Games Sunday
Comp pct 59.1 72.7
Yards/Att 8.0 13.9
TD-Int 0-2 1-1
1st down pct 34.1 50.0
Unfortuantely, his turnovers came at the wrong time (2 were on blitzes that the OL didn’t pick up).

1) With 3:42 left in the 3rd quarter, up 14-7 and driving at their own 48, the only miscue Hartline had all day, was he slipped as Tannehill was throwing it, which allowed CB Greg Toler to step in front and pick it off. There could have been a flag thrown. Check it out: http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap2000000067575/Cardinals-intercept-Tanne [6]

2) With 2:51 left in the game, up 21-14 and at midfield, DT Daryl Washington flew up the middle uncontested (as a Cardinal does as it come for its prey), sacked Tannehill and the ball came loose; Former Dolphin DT Vonnie Holliday recovered the fumble. That led to a Kevin Kolb connecting with Andre Roberts for a 15 yard TD with 0.22 seconds left in the game.

3) In OT, after the Dolphins stopped the Cardinals, LB Paris Lenon came on a major blitz uncontested again and drilled Tannehill (like a bulldozer knocking down a building), as he was throwing and CB Kerry Rhodes has gift-wrapped interception. That led to the Game-Winning 46 yard FG by former Dolphin Jay Feely. Here is the interception: http://www.nfl.com/videos/auto/0ap1000000067771/Rhodes-overtime-interception [7]

I know the turnovers help loose the game, but he was on a major role with his receivers Hartline and Bess.

If you thought the Raiders game was great by Hartline, than AMAZING would easily describe today: He was MONEY all day: 12 catches (careeer-high), a franchise record 253 yards, and a TD. His 253 yards surpassed Chris Chambers’ record of 238 that was done on 12/4/05 vs. Bills. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/turnovers-help-arizona-beat-miami-235059642–nfl.html [8]

His TD was an 80 yard bomb was a thing off BEAUTY. He went from the right side to the left side of the field, caught it and sprinted down the left sideline. That put the Dolphins up 19-14. Tannehill hit him with such a BEAUTIFULLY thrown ball. I was SCREAMING so loud, that it darn near blew my best friend Mark’s ears off. I am a very PASSIONATE FAN, and it was an amazing catch. That came right after the Legedu Naanee fumbled (more on him later). Sean Smith got the turnover back by intercepting Kolb in the end zone. Take a look at the catch and his day, which included a 57 yard catch down the right sideline.

Bess was MONEY as well. 7 catches, 123 yards and made key 3rd down catches.

Reggie Bush did play and had a so-so game (17 carries, 67 yards). He did bust one for 21 yards. Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller names were hardly called.

The offensive line hurt the Dolphins’today and so did the secondary again. The weakest link got shredded again; this time Kevin Kolb did it. Sean Smith had 2 awesome interceptions (career-high). That was the highlight. They played well in the 1st half, but they got picked apart in the 2nd half. Kolb threw for 324 yards on 48 attempts. He completed 29. Former Cardinal Richard Marshall, who seems to be torched every week, was targeted and was beaten by Andre Roberts on the TD to tie and send the game to OT. Roberts had 6 catches, 118 yards, 2TD’s (including a 46 yarder to tie the game at 14).

The front seven couldn’t have done much better. Cameron Wake ran around like a MAN-POSSESSED. He sacked Kolb 4.5 times (a career-high). Koa Misi had 1.5 sacks. 8 sacks total (1 shy of franchise record). They held the Cardinals to 28 yards running on 15 attempts.

Some other notes:

Dan Carpenter hit 2 of 3 FG’s (32 and 27), but missed a 51 yard FG in the 3rd quarter which could have put them up 16-0. He had the leg, but missed WIDE-RIGHT. Fans are probably screaming for his release. I think it is a little premature, but more misses and the UNEMPLOYMENT LINE may have a new member.

Someone who definitely needs to be on the UNEMPLOYMENT LINE is: Legedu Naanee. He is HORRIBLE!!! With Miami driving on their own 42, Tannehill throws a strike to Naanee, who catches for 19 yards and then.. FUMBLES IT!!! He wasn’t even hit on the play. Patrick Peterson recovered and ran 60 yards. Naanee who has a history of DROPPING BALLS, fumbles at the WORST TIME, which ended another Dolphins’ drive.

Jorvorskie Lane had another TD run, and also 2-point conversion on a pass from Tannehill to put them up 21-14. His 1 yard TD run was on a 4th and 1. Great call by coach Philbin. Those were great plays, but he also failed to convert a 3rd and 1 from Miami 31. He looked he had it. I am surprised Coach Philbin didn’t challenge the spot. He might have won that challenge and the drive would have continued. He also was responsible for blocking Daryl Washington and missed it. That led to the fumble. Daniel Thomas also missed a crucial 3 and 1 early in the 1st half.

They had their chances to even up their record at 2-2. Now, they stand at 1-3. They played well today, but let it slip away.

Next week, they face the up-tempo, lightning quick Bengals. As Chris Berman says, “B-E-N-G-A-L-S”. It should be a high scoring matchup.
