Monday morning hangover: Second half save
Posted By Adam Sharp On Oct 1 2012 @ 8:14 pm In New England Patriots | No Comments
It is Monday. Time for the biggest weekday football game of the week. Need to break out a beer and look at yesterday’s Pats game. Beer is a good hangover cure after a victory like yesterday’s.
I am sure I am not the only Pats fan who carried a hangover with them all day. Thinking about the dominance of the best QB in the league, and more importantly, the running game. My friends and I decided to take a shot every time a Pats player went over a hundred yards. Before I knew it, I was on my ass.
Gronkowski, Welker, Brady, Ridley, and this guy named Brandon Bolden all had over a hundred yards. After we all took our shot in honor of Bolden, we decided to see exactly who this guy was. And the answer is, he was nobody. Case in point, was.
Bolden played at Ole Miss. He had an okay 2010 season on a very mediocre team, but the next year broke his ankle and ended his collegiate career. He was undrafted and picked up by the Pats, and he is already worth his check.
If Bolden can play at 80% of what he did against the Bills, the Pats will have the premiere three back team. Brady could slowly start to drift to the back of people’s minds, and have the time to carve defenses up, just like he did Sunday.
Me and the boys decided to take one more shot after McCourtney got his two picks. Another career milestone in this game. Turnovers is were champions and chumps are separated.
Most, to many, of the Super Bowl teams of the last five years have had horrible defenses. With the high offense game of today, it is okay to give up a lot of yards, but the “21st century” good defense creates turnovers. In today’s game it is more about giving the offense opportunities and less about the defense getting stops.
The Pats did everything they needed to do and my headache could not be sweeter. It just connects me more with the game because the players hurt the day after too. This second half six straight touchdown game blew the Pats out of their funk. This is the first game of the fifth and final ring.
Other random things:
CB Stephen Gilmore shut down Lloyd, despite the rest of the team scoring
The defense not only got turnovers, but looked physical; Wilfork is slowly becoming the best in the game
The little guys are starting to find their place on the Pats
Edelman is going to have to step back in quick if he wants to maintain a steady carry rate
