The Jaguars are All In … Trouble

First, Shad Kahn got to see up close just how much of a gap there was between the Houston Texans and his franchise. Then, Fred Taylor returned to a hero’s welcome, only to see the currents Jags display very little … Pride.

Next week, when the Chicago Bears come to town, maybe they should do the Superbowl Shuffle. At least the Jags would be entertaining before they get trounced.

Snarkiness aside, Jacksonville was again outclassed by a much better team. The time of possession once again was close, but the real telling sign is what a team does with their time on the field. Jacksonville routinely has trouble putting together drives and as a result, they give their opponent better field position.

Maurice Jones-Drew, a constant for the Jaguars was rendered useless with only 38 rushing yards. Without his input for the offense, Gabbert has very little chance of hooking up with receivers for substantial gains. On a more positive note, the Jaguars responded to the APB sent out for one Justin Blackmon. He led the Jaguars in receiving for the first time this season against a depleted Bengals secondary.

Great, even that positive doesn’t seem so positive anymore.

Truth be told, there were very few positives to take away from yesterday’s game. Blackmon had a presence, Blaine Gabbert actually completed more passes than Andy Dalton (take that!), had fewer penalties and a better red-zone percentage as well. Okay, the Jags were one for two, but hey baby steps.

Speaking of which, it may as well be the real motto for the Jaguars. This is a team that is taking very small steps toward improvement, but they’ll mostly be looking at another double-digits loss season with some heart-breaking losses and some inspirational wins.

Now, if Jacksonville has any special plans for next week, can we nix them?
