Looking good, Longhorns are 4 and 0 and may have stolen one in Oklahoma. Coach Gundy is disputing the finally touchdown by Texas on Joe Bergeron’s 2 yard score. He believes, Joe fumble and Okie State recovered the ball at the goal line. Guess, he will have to wait till next year to settle the score. But, anyway Texas won the game and headed back to Austin to celebrate.
Ash played a great game and continues to handle himself well under pressure. And the best thing about Ash, he is just a sophomore. He may turn out to be better than McCoy or Young. He threw for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns. So far he has thrown for over a 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns and 1 interception. He is a very intelligent quarterback with the knack of reading defenses and audibilizing at the line of scrimmage.
The offense has come a long ways since the days of former coach, Greg Davis. They have learned to utilize multiple weapons on the offenses side of the ball. I was really not a fan of the wildcat offense, it reminded me of the wishbone formation. But, I get a kick out of watching freshmen J. Gray, run it. It really confused the Oklahoma State defense and was a major factor in the 4th quarter, especially without the service of Malcom Brown. He went out of the game with an ankle injury. The offensive line did a great job pass protecting on that last drive to win the game. The receivers played great with Shipley,Davis and tight end, D.J. Grant.
The defense continues to play inconsistent. They are a talented group with depth but can’t tackle. Too many blown assignments which lead to big plays by the opponents. They allowed freshman quarterback Walsh too throw for over three hundred yards and also scamper for 50 yards on a draw in the fourth quarter. He didn’t play well at times but almost pulled off a win. Okie State rushing game keep them in the game. They rushed for over two hundred yards and led by Randle with over 100 yards and a few touchdowns. The defense is starting to have a lot of injuries. Defensive lineman Moore and linebacker Hicks failed to make the trip. I expect Moore back for the W.V. game. I believe safety Phillips is a little bang up.
The special team came up big with kickoff return for touchdown by D.J. Monroe early in the game. But do have some concerns about the pooch kick in the 4 quarter, when Nick has a history of kicking the ball deep.
