Don Kelly’s heroics give Tigers victory

Don Kelly didn’t get the start in this game. but ended up being the difference maker in this game.

Kelly scored the game tying-run after a wild pitch by A’s pitcher Ryan Cook in the bottom of the eighth inning. A pinch hit sacrifice fly from Kelly in the bottom of the ninth inning propelled the Tigers to a 5-4 victory and  commanding 2-0 ALDS lead. Kelly, originally a pinch runner for Delmon Young, came to bat in a bases loaded situation after a Prince Fielder walk. Miguel Cabrera was at second base and Omar Infante was at third. Kelly hit a blooper high into far right field which was caught by Josh Reddick. Infante tagged up at third base and beat the relaying throw home.

The first point of the game came from a Cespedes single to shallow left field which brought Cliff Pennington home. Later in the bottom of the inning, the Tigers responded with a Delmon Young groundout which led to a run scored by Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera showed a better performance than yesterday with three hits from five at-bats.

More runs came in during the seventh inning. Pennington singled to center field and brought Seth Smith back home. The Tigers once again answered the call in the bottom of the same inning when a Coco Crisp error brought Austin Jackson and Omar Infante home.

[1]Doug Fister had a good start at the mound, giving up two earned runs in seven innings and striking out eight batters. The problem lied in the set up man Joaquin Benoit. Benoit came into the eighth inning with the Tigers up 3-2 and proceeded to give up a run to Yoenis Cespedes via wild pitch and a homer to Josh Reddick, giving the A’s a 4-3 lead before Kelly saved the day. The win ended up going to reliever Al Albuquerque.

The Tigers will go out to Oakland for a Tuesday night matchup. The game will start at 9:07 ET and will have Anibal Sanchez and Brett Anderson facing off. Anderson is coming off of injury and could possibly be scratched from his start.
