As the ALDS goes on, let me point out some key things that need to work for the Tigers for them to reach their first World Series in six years.
They need to close out games
Let me tell you, I’m a part of the mass of people that wants Jose Valverde to be removed as closer. He just isn’t getting the job done. He’s blown one game and almost blown another due to his pathetic pitching. Valverde today isn’t starting as closer, but if he does, he needs to get his act together. I suggest the Tigers start Drew Smyly or Joaquin Benoit as closer today and/or throughout the rest of the series. They are performing a heck of a lot better than Valverde
Infante hits at a critical position in the lineup as the second batter. He accounts for a whole bunch of the teams runs given the fact he hits right before Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. Infante has done well getting on base and being a good base runner and he needs to continue to succeed in that area in order for the Tigers to win games.
The Tigers were up 2-0 in the A’s series and squandered two games. They basically thought the series is over. The Yankees are a very experienced team and the Tigers need to make sure they keep their focus on the World Series whether the series is a Tigers 3-0 lead or a 3-1 Yankees lead. The veterans and captains need to step up to make this happen.
