Raiders Head To The Dirty South To Take On Falcons

The Oakland Raiders head to Hotlanta to take on the Falcons in an early Sunday matchup. The Falcons are undefeated at 5-0, while the Raiders are coming off a bye week with a record of 1-3.

The Falcons are one of two undefeated teams left in the NFL, and are considered heavy favorites in today’s contest. The Raiders are making their second trip to the east coast this season, the only difference this time, is that it’s not after playing a Monday Night Football game.

Look, I could try to give you this elaborate explanation on how the Raiders have tightened up some loose ends during the bye week, but I’m not because bottom line the Raiders need to play with the same effort they did against the Pittsburgh Steelers (another game they were heavy underdogs in and won).

Oakland needs to establish their running game if they even think about wanting to win Sunday’s ball game. It’s great to know that Raiders’ quarterback, Carson Palmer can drop back  and throw it 50 plus times, but everyone knows running back Darren McFadden is the “heart and soul” of Oakland’s offense. If they can find some balance on offense, then maybe they will be able to generate enough points to keep up with the Falcons.

Defensively…….I have nothing to say after the 37-6 a@# whooping they took against the Denver Broncos two weeks ago. With a depleted secondary again, one can only ask for a couple of things. One, plllleeeaaassseee  try to get after Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan or its a “Reynolds” (wrap). Two, try to slow down running back Michael (The Non-Burner) Turner from any long runs.

The Raiders D always seem to fall apart in the third quarter. Oakland’s defensive coordinator Jason Tarver needs to fix that problem, and come up with a solid game plan for 60 minutes, or this game could be over by halftime.

Head coach Dennis Allen got a signature win in week three at home against the Steelers, and now looks to get a signature road win against the undefeated Falcons. With the second quarter of the season underway for the Silver and Black, it will be interesting to see if Allen has made any adjustments as a rookie head coach. Progress re-establishes confidence, an a big road win against an elite team could jump start the Raiders in the right direction, at least that’s what Raider Nation is praying for.
