The Rams played a great football game today on both sides of the ball. The offense was clicking especially the running game and the defense played smash mouth football. Based on the stat line, you would think that the Rams won the game, but they did not, losing 17- 14.
The defense completely shut Reggie Bush down, holding him to 17 yards rushing on 12 attempts. The secondary only gave up 185 yards passing on 29 attempts by Tannehill, but he did throw two touchdowns. Offensively the Rams had great rhythm and the running game was flowing. Jackson and Richardson combined for 128 yards rushing on 23 carries. Sam Bradford was on fire, throwing for 315 yards on 39 attempts.
The problem with the Rams is, that they continue to rely on their rookie kicker to make big kicks. With all the success the Rams had offensively today, they only scored one touchdown late in the 4th quarter. The rookie, record setting kicker Zurlein struggled today. After hitting his first two field goal attempts, Zurlein missed three consecutive attempts from 48, 32 and 66 yards. Instead of the Rams going for it on fourth down late in the game, Jeff Fisher opted to let his rookie kicker attempt a 66 yard field goal. Zurlein had the leg but the not accuracy, missing wide left. The rookie needs to shake off his lack luster performance and get ready for next weeks game. The Rams are really going to need him and his foot if they expect to beat or even compete against the Green Bay Packers next Sunday.
