Someone get a broom cause the Yankees just got swept.
Max Scherzer put the cap on a dominating series for the Tigers as they blast the Yankees, 8-1. Scherzer turned in a decent start, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out 10 batters on two hits and a run. As for C.C Sabathia, it was a different story as he only lasted 3.2 innings.
Sabathia’s nightmare began right in the first inning when a Delmon Young single brought Omar Infante in for a run. An inning later, an Avisail Garcia infield single scored Prince Fielder. Two run homers by Miguel Cabrera and Johnny Peralta ended Sabathia’s day on the mound and brought the score to 6-0.
The Yankees responded a bit in the sixth inning when a Nick Swisher double scored Eric Nunez and narrowed the lead to five runs, but it was not enough. Austin Jackson hit a solo shot in the seventh inning and another Johnny Peralta homer made the score 8-1. Two innings of work for Phil Coke kept the score that way.
Delmon Young was named the ALCS MVP as the Tigers prepare to face the winner of the Cardinals/Giants series. No matter who wins, expect to see Verlander on the mound for game 1 in the future.
