Dallas at Carolina

The Cowboys will be without DeMarco Murray this week and now could be without Dez Bryant as well. This could put a lot more pressure on Tony Romo to carry the load this week. This could be a boon for the team or end up leaving everyone with a bad taste in their mouths, as we’ve seen Romo play great when the team has leaned on him as well as seeing the collapses.
It has been reported that Bryant’s bags are packed for the trip to Carolina with his pads and jersey, which is a good sign he could play. It would be an unfortunate turn of events though, if Bryant were to have to sit out right as he is starting to put it together this season. If Bryant is out this week, Dallas will rely on on Miles Austin and the mercurial play of Kevin Ogletree to lead their wide receiving core.
The Cowboys could see more plays called for Jason Witten, who has put together two strong games after being mired with drops over the first two weeks, which could be chalked up to recovering from the spleen injury he suffered in the preseason.
The team will be looking to Felix Jones on the ground to fill in for the injured Murray after a surprisingly solid outing against the Ravens last week. Jones ran hard and appeared to have some burst still left in him. Dallas could really use that same type of play from Felix this week against the Panthers who have had problems defending the big plays. The backfield will also see a rotation of Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar who also ran well behind a surprisingly physical O-line last week.
The Carolina defense has held teams like Tampa Bay and Seattle to 16 points each, while giving up at least 27 points to New Orleans, Atlanta, and the New York Giants. It’s difficult to see where the Cowboys offense would fit in, but you have to believe even with Murray and possibly Bryant out, that the Cowboys can put up more than 16 points.
Cam Newton has been suffering the dreaded sophomore slump and has not thrown the ball particularly well but continues to be a threat on the ground. Dallas will need to keep the Panthers dangerous trio of Cam Newton, Jonathan Stewart, and DeAngelo Williams bottled up as much as possible and force Newton to go to the air where the Dallas D has been strong this season.
Th Cowboys should have the edge in this game even with their injuries, and should be able to climb above .500 this Sunday. Dallas could really use a win this week to put last week’s difficult loss behind them.
