Jets-Patriots: A Classic Matchup

Posted By Matt Brody On Oct 19 2012 @ 9:00 am In New York Jets | No Comments

This is not a good week for the Jets to travel up to Foxboro.  The New England Patriots are coming off a tough loss to Seattle and are not happy about it.

It’s safe to say the Jets’ defense will have their hands full.  Tom Brady had a rough outing last week throwing two interceptions and he would love to bounce back against the Jets.

New York’s secondary played great last week, but then again they were playing a rookie quarterback.  The’ll have to lockdown Wes Welker and prevent Brandon Lloyd from making big plays down the field.  Even if they’re able to do that, though, they’ll still have to deal with the two-headed monster at tight end.  Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez are the most dynamic tight end duo in the league and can attack a defense in a number of ways.

One way to stop the Patriots’ offense is to keep them on the sideline.  The Jets need to control the clock and that means running the ball a whole lot.  They broke out last week for 252 yards on the ground and against a tough New England defensive line they’ll have to do it again.

The Patriots’ secondary is vulnerable and once a run game is established the Jets should be able to throw it downfield.  Mark Sanchez will have his safety blanket Dustin Keller and that should make the quarterback feel more comfortable.  Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill definitely have speed and talent, they just have to get open so Sanchez can find them.

Whenever these two teams meet it’s always a tough, hard-hitting game.  This week should be no different.  With the top spot in the division on the line both teams will be hungry.

Final Score: Patriots 28  Jets 20
