How the West was won (by the other team)

These are the score totals the Jaguars have given up the last four games they’ve played out West : 38, 31, 41, 20.
These are the last four score totals the Jaguars have mustered when they’ve gone out West : 13, 17, 0, 3.
West Coast trips are few and far between for Jacksonville. In fact, the last time they went out West was to play San Diego in 2010. David Garrard was still putting up solid 200 yard passing games while MJD was always a threat to break 100 every game. The Jags defense was stout and Jack the River was supremely coiffed as he roamed the sidelines.
Those days seem like a feast compared to the famine that has befallen Jacksonville. But, not all is lost this time around. The Jaguars travel to the Black Hole to face the most hostile fans in the league. The Raiders play like a person forever trapped in arrested development. Every new season brings about talk of a new attitude and the team turning the corner.
And every year Oakland turns that corner – right into a brick wall. I would laugh, but as someone who has watched the Jaguars ever since the first season, I know that feeling. And season after season, the disappointment eventually turns to acceptance as we look more forward to the draft than the playoffs.
This Sunday should showcase a lot of weaknesses for both teams and the one that can survive those mistakes will win. A word to the wise, if you are not a fan of either team, this will not be easy to watch.
Oakland has two advantages tomorrow : Carson Palmer, who is 12th in passing yards and hosting instead of being on the East Coast. Other than that, both give up copious amounts of yards. Oakland has the advantage through the air, and Jacksonville has the ground edge.
With these facts in mind, I’m giving the edge to … Jacksonville.Oakland is a team that can lack discipline at times and Jacksonville is due for a west coast win. MJD will be invigorated and Blaine will pass for over 250 yards against a Raiders pass defense that ranks 25th in the league. This Oakland game is one that is winnable and we could see Jacksonville put together a full game on both sides of the ball.
Jacksonville 21, Oakland 19
