The W That Should Have Been

Posted By Mercedes Green On Oct 22 2012 @ 9:33 am In Washington Redskins | No Comments

There were many reasons why this should have been a win for the Redskins:

  • RG3, RG3 and RG3.  You think you’ve seen what this guy can do and then he plays this game.
  • Alfred Morris ran for a season high 120 yards, with a total offense rushing yards of 248 yards.  Yes, that’s rushing yards!
  • Questionable ref calls.  3 calls that I did not agree with:  Davis’ illegal shift which nullified a TD on their opening drive (there’s the 4 point difference), personal foul call on Polumbus which nullified a 15 yard run by Morris who then fumbled, and the leg whip penalty.  Oh ya that one that didn’t happen.
  • Defense held the Giants running game to a low 64 yards.
  • Redskins went 3/3 in fourth down conversions of to which one will for sure be on everyone’s top list this week
  • The Redskins are the only team in the NFL to get an interception in every game (this one they got 2 of Eli’s passes).
  • Santana Moss.  Passing to him mid field not good, but throw to him for a TD and he gets 2!

There were also many reasons why the Redskins lost:

  • TE Fred Davis out for possibly the rest of the season with an Achilles injury
  • The defense not only allowed 337 passing yards, but allowed an easy pass to Cruz to solidify the victory after all of work the offense and RG3 just did to get them ahead
  • Turnovers.  Wow there were a lot of those.  RG3 threw cannon interception, Morris fumbled, as did RG3, but the last one by Santana Moss was the game-ender.
  • Eli Manning.

I do have to write about these 4th down conversions.  The Redskins went for it at 4th and 3, 4th and 1 and again at 4th and 10.  This last one was one for the books.  With 2:07 remaining in the game, the Redskins are down by 4.  The new kicker can’t help them.  RG3 takes the 4th and 10 and turns it into a 1st down and then some.  He was literally running around the entire field, avoiding multiple tackles and somehow saw TE Paulsen, who’s in because of the injury to Davis, and got the ball to him.  He then gets the ball to Santana Moss for a TD, the lead and what everyone assumed as the game winner.  It should have been.  That should have been RG3’s win, not Eli’s.

I also am very saddened when I saw London Fletcher on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.  He was not sitting down.  He’s was up, helmet off, watching the game.  He leads the NFL with consecutive game starts so I hope for him and this team that the injury is not bad.  The team needs him.  The defense needs him.  We the fans need him.
