Its difficult to go with the Cowboys in this one, even while at home. The team will be without 3 important players in DeMarco Murray, Sean Lee, and Phil Costa and Eli Manning has never lost at the Death Star after it opened in 2009.
The Cowboys loss of linebacker Sean Lee will have a large impact as he was one of the team’s best defensive players, and it is his ability to cover that may hurt the most. With Martellus Bennett coming back to Arlington with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove, we could see a lot of him in this game and Lee’s cover skills will be missed.
The loss of Murray and more importantly his physical and punishing running style, which was a large reason the Cowboys won in week 1, will be missed. It was his running that allowed the Cowboys to run out the clock and keep Manning off the field leading to the win. The Cowboys will rely on Fragile Felix Jones, who will fill in well, but will not be able to kill the clock the Murray can. Jones will also be playing through a bruised knee and a strained neck, and rarely plays well through injury.
Putting aside the fact that Phil Costa’s bad snaps from last season, when he returned to the lineup a few weeks back the line played stronger and more physical with him in, a nastiness that the coaching staff loved. Without him in it’s tough to say the line will be as strong, and with the Giants front 4 starting to pick in up as of late it could be a rough day for the Dallas line.
All the negativity aside, Dez Bryant has come off the injury report and Jason Witten has put his early season slump behind him. Tony Romo will need to see some strong play from his big name players like Bryant, Witten, and Austin for the team have a chance.
The edge goes to the 5-2 Giants, but this should be a hard fought game.
