Can the Ravens Get Back On Track?

Heading into the bye week, the Ravens were on top of the AFC North Division with their 5-2 record, and are 2nd in the AFC behind the Houston Texans.  However, their record doesn’t show exactly how they have been playing.  The Ravens have definitely had their ups and downs so far this year, and recently, a lot more downs than ups.

With the loss of Ray Lewis and Ladarious Webb, the defense could be in serious trouble replacing the two veterans.  Lewis and Webb bring so much talent and leadership to the team, they leave big shoes to fill. On the upside to the defense, Terrell Suggs is back.  The 2011 defensive player of the year has returned in record time from his off season torn Achilles tendon.  The Ravens are ranked 28th in yards per game allowed, giving up an average 400 yards.

The offense for the Ravens has not played well on the road thus far.  The offense is ranked 16th for yards per game, coming out of the bye week averaging 355 yards per game. In their most recent lost against Houston, they only produced 184 yards.  The offense is going to have to play better if the Ravens want to continue winning games this season.  The Ravens rushing team is not producing as well as they need to be.  With an All-Pro running back like Ray Rice, they need to be ranked higher than 19th, with 104 yards per game.

Special Teams

Justin Tucker is ranked #9 in the NFL for place kicking.  He has made 14 of his 15 field goal attempts for a 93% completion rate.  This young man has proven he is the man for the job and will be a great asset to the Ravens.  Sam Koch has had 30 punts this year, averaging, 47.2 yards per punt.

The Ravens have a busy schedule ahead of them. This weekend they’ll be in Cleavland to face the Browns before returning home to take on the Raiders.

Can the Ravens get back on track? What do you think?
