Detroit Pistons season preview

Who is ready for some basketball?

The Pistons tip off their season tomorrow against Jeremy Lin, James Harden and the Houston Rockets. But let’s take some time to reflect on some Motown basketball.

The Pistons continue to rebuild their team and the emergence of Greg Monroe has certainly made things easier for thisteam. Monroe averaged 15.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game last year in the lockout shortened season. He is the foundation of this team and the Pistons need him to continue to put up these numbers, or even improve them, if the Pistons want any chance at a future championship.

Brandon Knight might be the point guard of the future for this Pistons squad. Knight had a successful rookie campaign last year by averaging 13.7 points and 3.8 assists last year. Knight’s emergence at the point guard position allowed Rodney Stuckey to shift into a shooting guard, a position more suited for him. Hopefully Knight can take another step in developing into an elite point guard.

[1]The forward positions are certainly are going to be interesting for the position. As of right now, Tayshaun Prince and Jason Maxiell are slated as the starters for tomorrow’s game. What happens at those positions will be interesting. If Andre Drummond develops into an NBA-ready center, Monroe will be able to shift over and play power forward. As for Prince, there is a possibility he might get traded during the season. The team has a platoon of players that are fighting for time in Corey Maggettee, Kye Singler, Jonas Jerebko, Charlie Villanueva and Austin Daye. The Pistons need to figure out a consistent day-to-day starting lineup if they want to be successful throughout the season.

All in all, the rebuilding effort is still evident in this Pistons squad and they won’t be a powerhouse for a couple more years. However, this doesn’t mean the Pistons still can’t sneak into the playoffs. Either way, Pistons basketball is going to begin in a day and I wish the best of luck to the team.
