Glendale, Az- Fan’s showed up in Halloween costumes, they were hoping for a party. After it was over, realizing the party never began, the disappointed fans used their costumes and masks to hide their shame. I was flipping back and fourth between Friday the 13th and Monday Night Football after the 1st quarter and I couldn’t tell the difference. Bad horror movies and the Cardinals on Monday night are pretty much one in the same. Having lost 9 of their last 10 MNF appearances shows their trouble with showing up when the national spotlight is on. Hopefully ESPN comes back again.
Usually its the offense’s lack of ability that causes Arizona to lose games, but last night the Cardinals were outplayed in every facet of the game. Alex Smith was coming off somewhat of a slump, and the guy comes into Phoenix and almost sets a Monday Night Football completion record (18/19, needed 20 passes to be eligible). Michael Crabtree looked about as good as I’ve ever seen him, punking the Cardinal’s secondary routinely while getting substantial yards after each catch. The 49ers went into halftime with a 17-0 lead and everyone knew the game was over and a slaughter was taking place. In true Halloween fashion Randy Moss woke from the dead to catch a 47 yard TD to go up 24-0.
So the defense got worked last night, they’d admit that, but if anyone deserves s little leniency after a bad performance its them. They’re the reason Arizona started out 4-0 and their the reason Arizona had any chance in the 3 games before last night. I don’t expect to see a a performance like that out of that side of the ball for the rest of year, but they’re starting to look a little tired out there due to being on the field all the time. This is the 2nd time the Cardinals have been unable to score a single touchdown during a game and it doesn’t look like any of their problems will be fixed soon. The playoffs are starting to look out of the question if they weren’t already.
Arizona rushed for 7 yards and was actually happy to only give up 4 sacks yesterday. No need for any comment, those stats speak for themselves.
After last night’s embarrassment, an 8-8 record is about the most to expect from this team. The offense isn’t even inconsistent, its consistently bad. Larry Fitzgerald has literally caught passes from 12 different quarterbacks since 2005 and the O-line has been supposed to be getting better for more than five years now. They lack an above-average QB and the essential protection up front. That is what the Cardinals are, its disappointing because they’re defense is strong but there’s no denying the facts. They go to Lambeau next week to face The Pack. Good luck with that.
