Tough Loss for the Cowboys

The roller coaster ride continues in Dallas as the Cowboys lost to the Giants after coming close to pulling off a win in the closing seconds of the game. Dez Bryant made a highlight reel catch, but had his fingers and side of his hand just on the white line and was called out of bounds. He also came down hard on his hip, but was able to return for the last play of the game. The team seemed to lose all it’s momentum after losing the call, and Tony Romo’s last throw looked like he had just given up and threw it away.
The game started terribly for the Cowboys as they went down 23-0 early on after Jason Pierre-Paul snatched a pass from Romo close to the end zone and ran it in. What followed was something we haven’t seen from the team in some time. Dallas began to rally from behind to score 24 unanswered points with a rushing touchdown from Felix Jones and Tony Romo followed by a quick flick pass to John Phillips. After another questionable route that resulted in an interception from Tony Romo, Dez Bryant got a talking to on the sideline and came to life grabbing 5 catches for 110 yards. However, Mr. Reliable was Jason Witten who set a Cowboys record with 18 receptions in the game. Miles Austin was also highly involved hauling in 9 receptions for 133 yards.
The biggest contribution though probably came from the Dallas defense tightening up on the Giants holding them to 293 total yards. The Giants capitalized off of good field position on their turnovers, but was held in check for large portions of the game. The Cowboys held Eli Manning, who is a viable MVP candidate, to 192 yards and an interception on the day. They also held one of the NFL’s most dynamic receivers in Victor Cruz to 2 catches and 28 yards.
The 4 interceptions by Romo and the terrible fumble by Felix Jones left the team with too many missed opportunities on the field. It is probably time that Dallas begin to move on from Felix Jones, and there are rumors that the team has finally accepted the idea. It’s a tough loss for any fan to swallow, but the team played well throughout the game and will need to take away the positives going into next week against the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons.
