Fear the Beard

James Harden showed Rockets fans he is going to play like the franchise player he was paid with me. Unfortunately for Pistons fans, they were his first victims as the Pistons fell to the new-look Houston Rockets 105-96.
The Pistons suffered from a dismal start from Rodney Stuckey who only had nine points on 1-10 shooting. Stuckey, after being shifted to shooting guard, was supposed to be the team’s number one scoring option. Brandon Knight took the scoring reins today, putting up 15 points and dishing out four assists. Greg Monroe had a decent day with 14 points and eight rebounds while getting three steals. The Pistons really need a better effort from Monroe if this team wants to succeed. Jason Maxiell turned in a decent performance of his own with 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, sending the message to Jonas Jerebko that he will have to fight him for the starting power forward spot.
The game also showcased the Pistons rookies. Pistons lottery pick Andre Drummond got 13 minutes off the bench and had two points, two rebounds, two steals and two blocks. It’s a good start for Drummond, who needs to take baby steps to develop into a starting player. Kim English also got some playing time today and turned in an eight point effort and also had two steals of his own. Kyle Singler also played his first NBA game after spending last season overseas and had 10 points of his own.
Meanwhile, today was the big debut for two main additions for the Houston Rockets: shooting guard James Harden and
point guard Jeremy Lin. The Rockets got a huge performance from James Harden, who rained in 37 points and had 12 dimes as well as four steals. Lin had a decent, but less impressive, debut with 12 points and 8 assists. Another new acquisition for the Rockets, Omer Asik, also had a good start with 12 points and seven assists. Asik had spent the last year being a key player off the bench for the Chicago Bulls and now has the opportunity to be the main big man for the Rockets.
The Pistons, a team who prides themselves on defense, didn’t play good defense today. With all the “Big 3′s” emerging, teams will have dynamic scorers. The Pistons need to work on locking in those scorers and making sure they don’t rain in buckets. A dismal field goal percentage of their own doesn’t make things easier for this Pistons squad. They need to work on taking accurate shots and not chucking up random shots.
The Pistons have a chance to redeem themselves on Friday against Luis Scola, Goran Dragic and the Phoenix Suns at 10:00 pm ET.
