Georgia overcomes early deficit to take win over Ole Miss

Georgia fans were bracing for what looked like a pending early upset on Saturday, but after a pair of solid touchdown passes from quarterback Aaron Murray, the Bulldogs pulled away for a 37-10 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels.
Not only did the Rebels use effective blitzing techniques to score five sacks on Murray in the early half of play, but Georgia also found themselves at a 10-0 deficit before the Bulldog offense started pouring it on. After suffering those five sacks, Murray quickly regained his composure to go 21-for-28, with 384-yards and no interceptions. Murray started his streak of passes hitting an unmanned Marlon Brown on a 66-yard pass to the end zone. After Murray hit Tavarres King on a 40-yard pass with just three seconds until the half, Georgia never lost their focus or the lead.
Going to the air and mimicking his early season fashion, Murray gained impressive touchdown passes of 66, 40, 42 and 28 yards.
Although freshman running back Todd Gurley earned his first fumble of the season, he kept his numbers up on the ground, going strong with 117-yards on 18 carries, to contribute to Georgia’s win and to keep their hopes alive for an SEC title. Gurley has now rushed for 100-plus yards in six out of nine games.
Defensively, linebacker Alec Ogletree had a big day and walked away with a safety, a sack and an interception. Damian Swann also aided Georgia’s defensive efforts by recovering two Rebel fumbles. Although the Rebels took an early lead, they were only able to put up 55-yards of offense after the half. When on target, Georgia’s defense has the potential to be one of the toughest in the game.
Coming off of strong defensive play that earned their win against Florida last week, the Bulldog defense held Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace to 187-yards, one touchdown and an interception.
Georgia outmatched Ole Miss with a 533-234 margin in total yardage on the day.
By gaining a victory against the Rebels, Georgia can clinch their second straight SEC title with a win against a struggling Auburn (2-7) next week. The Bulldogs must win against Auburn, as Florida (8-1, 7-1) took a win against Missouri on Saturday to complete their SEC schedule and would claim the SEC East title if Auburn pulled off an unpredicted upset. Georgia has now improved their record to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the SEC.
