Lakeshow Relieve Tension With Blowout Win Against The Pistons

The Los Angeles Lakers finally get into the win column with a good old fashioned beat down of the Detroit Pistons at the Staple Center 108-79.

This was the type of performance Laker Nation expected to see in the first three games, and want to become accustomed to viewing on a somewhat regular basis (yes Laker fans are pretty much spoiled). On Sunday night, you saw the potential of what type of juggernaut this current version of the Lakers can become.

Dwight Howard had a solid night scoring 28 points, to go along with 7 boards and 3 blocks. Pau Gasol had 14 points and 3 blocks, and yes there was a Metta World Peace siting, as the artist formerly known as Ron Artest had a flashback moment and dropped 18 points in Sunday night’s contest. This overall production from the starting front-court will be the key difference maker in determining how much the Lakers will be able to dominate future opponents.

There was no need to go into Black Mamba mode for Kobe Bryant, as he basically had the night off scoring 15 points, with 8 assists and 7 rebounds. The Lakers must take care of bottom dwellers like the Pistons, to give there banged up players a break on some nights so that they can somewhat heal up a bit, as well as to send the overall message that they mean business when they hit the court.

But for now, head coach Mike Brown knows last night’s “W” counts as only one win, and he knows that they still have ways to go into maximizing the potential of this new-look Lakeshow.

“We weren’t perfect offensively, but I think everybody — including us — got a good taste of what it can be like,” Brown said. “We’re just barely scratching┬áthe surface on where this thing can go. … Obviously, we needed a win. Every win we get gives us a little more belief on both ends of the floor.”

With a nice string of three annoying games this week against the Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, and Sacramento Kings, this should be a pretty interesting week in Laker-Land. The Lakers are clearly superior than all these three teams, but these type of squads somehow mange to get you to play their style of game, which is never a good thing for the opposition. Let’s see if the Lakeshow can pose their will on these teams, and put together a winning streak that puts them back on the plus side of .500.
