Georgia eyes SEC East title with win Saturday

All eyes will be on Georgia this weekend as they head to the Plains to take on the Auburn Tigers and with a win, clinch their spot at the top of the SEC East and a shot at the SEC title game.

Although the Bulldogs are going in as the heavy favorite against the 2-7 Tigers, this is a game packed with extreme pride and a chance for Auburn to come out with at least one conference win this season. Although the Tigers have yet to score a conference win, they have shown that they can be competitive and force an unexpected battle. The Bulldogs have definitely had the more favorable season, but have also shown some inconsistencies when on the road in previous games. In their last four games, Georgia has only produced an average of 22.5 points per game.

Plaguing Georgia this week is another offensive injury. The Bulldogs will have to play the rest of the season without wide receiver Marlon Brown, who is out after suffering a knee injury last week. Although Georgia should easily walk away with the victory, they are going to have to remain focused from the first snap and avoid critical turnovers. Last week, the Bulldogs came out with a win against the Ole Miss Rebels, but showed their vulnerability as the Rebels were able to take an early lead and Georgia struggled in finding a quick offensive rhythm.

Once again the outcome of Saturday’s game will rest heavily on the shoulders of quarterback Aaron Murray and if the offense can continue to put up the big numbers, coupled with their ability to execute. Last week, Todd Gurley racked up another 100-plus yard game and against an Auburn defense that is ranked last in the SEC, fans should expect another triple digit night. The Tiger’s pass defense has allowed 199 rushing yards per game and 17 touchdowns, something that a strong and fast Georgia offense, if they come out swinging, should easily capitalize on.

For the Tigers, it has been reported that freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace will get the nod to start on Saturday. Last week, Wallace earned his first career start against New Mexico State and completed 9 of 16 attempts for 164 -yards. However, the Bulldogs are ready to answer with a strong defensive attack on the young quarterback, especially from Jarvis Jones.

With the exceptional playmakers and talent that the Bulldogs have on both sides of the ball, a win Saturday should not be an issue. Although it could be a potentially close game in the beginning, be prepared to see Georgia settle in and make the plays needed to blow this game out of the water and roll to the SEC Championship game.

Saturday’s game will be televised on ESPN. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
