Jordan Leads Clippers to Dunkfest Win Over Spurs

Over the previous two games, both losses, the Los Angeles Clippers didn’t look at all like the high-flying “Lob City” act they brought to town last year.
Well, we witnessed the return of “Lob City” Wednesday evening at Staples Center.
DeAndre Jordan scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds (both season-highs) and blocked four shots as the Clippers knocked off the previously-unbeaten San Antonio Spurs 106-84. Jordan repeatedly dazzled the sold-out crowd with an array of ferocious dunks and alley-oops in recording (by far) his best output of the season.
Blake Griffin led L.A. with 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds, with a few highlight-reel plays of his own. Chris Paul added 10 points and 12 assists.
The Spurs seemed out-of-sorts offensively all night long, and shot just over 41 percent from the game, as opposed to the Clippers’ field goal percentage of 55.4. You know it’s a bad night when your leading scorer finishes with just 12 points, as Danny Green did. Tony Parker shot just 2-7 and finished with a season-low four points.
This was the first meeting between the two teams since last May, when San Antonio made quick work of the Clippers, sweeping them in four games to advance to the Western Conference Finals, where they were eventually taken down by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Clearly, the Clippers had revenge in mind for this one.
Prior to the loss, the Spurs were 4-0, good for the best start in franchise history; a fairly amazing stat for a franchise that has enjoyed the consistent success that the Spurs have.
Los Angeles truly broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring San Antonio 35-21 on blistering 71 percent shooting from the floor. L.A. also got very solid production from the bench unit Wednesday night, as Eric Bledsoe, Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford combined for 37 points, 10 assists and five three-pointers.
In all, seven Clippers scored in double-figures, compared to just two for the Spurs. San Antonio was outscored in every quarter except for the second, when the two teams each scored 25.
It’ll be a quick turnaround for the Clippers, now 3-2, who will travel north to take on the Portland Trail Blazers Thursday night in their first game away from Staples Center this season.
Don’t worry, though, because they’ll be back at home for three more starting Sunday when the Atlanta Hawks come to town.
San Antonio will play the Sacramento Kings Friday night.
