Cowboys Reach .500 With Overtime Win

The are probably a lot of ways for fans to look at the Cowboys overtime victory over the Browns this last Sunday.

First reaction is probably why was it so difficult for the Cowboys to beat a 2-7 team with a terrible road record. That has to be a valid concern for those paying close attention to the way the team can play great during a stretch and seem like a playoff caliber team, only to do an about face and get worked over by a developing team like the Browns and a Brown’s defense without their top corner Joe Haden. This isn’t to slight the Browns team, who have a good young core and a running back that is looking more and more like a star with every carry he gets. Rather, it is to note how the Cowboys repeatedly let games they should be more inclined to win slip away from them. Dallas did, however, pull themselves together and got the victory in overtime and a win is a win.

After taking a longer look at this though, fans should realize that the team was able to hold together throughout the game, and especially late in the game when it mattered most. More over we saw more great play from Dez Bryant, which is something the team and fans alike have been waiting for since he was drafted. He grabbed 12 receptions for 145 yards and a touchdown while drawing drive sustaining penalties from Buster Skrine. It is important to note that he did this against Skrine, who is a back up and no Joe Haden, but nevertheless Bryant has begun to blossom for the team and will be needed if they’ve any hopes of making a run at the division leading Giants. All the ups and downs Bryant has had this season appear to be coming full circle, and after the off the field issues, the drops, and poor route running the game appears to be slowing down for the 3rd year wide out and perhaps we will begin to see more of what many have hoped he would become.

Tony Romo didn’t wow anyone in the game and had a costly fumble late in the game, but was able to make the necessary throws late in the game to help pull out the victory. The Dallas defense also did well to keep the team in the game, especially late.

The Cowboys will get the Redskins next on Thanksgiving day which should be a thriller as they host RG3′s return to Texas.
