Ravens Review and a Look Ahead

A quick review from last Sunday’s game vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers:

It was a slow day on Sunday for the offense, only accumulating 200 yards of net offense.  Joe Flacco completed 62.5% of his passes for 164 yards.  He was 20/32 for the day.  Ray Rice accumulated more receiving yards than rushing yards.  Rice ran for 40 yards on 20 rushes and had 53 yards receiving on 5 catches.  The offensive line only gave up 2 sacks.  Anquan Boldin had a decent day with 8 catches for 79 yards.

The defense held tough to solidify the win for the Ravens.  The Raven’s forced three turnovers, two fumbles and one interception by Corey Graham.  They also had good pressure against Byron Leftwich, sacking him twice. Ed Reed and Bernard Pollard also had good games; the two players are forces to be reckoned with, especially with their hard hitting attitudes.

Special Teams:

Despite having an almost perfect rookie season thus far, Justin Tucker had a rare miss this week from 41 yards out.  He connected on two other field goals to go 2/3 on the day. Jacoby Jones returned a punt 63 yards for the only Raven touchdown in the game to help give the Raven’s a lead.

The Raven’s are now 8-2 on the season and are looking good for the playoffs.  They are one game behind the AFC leader Texans, and two games ahead of their divisional rivals, the Steelers.  Key veteran injuries have plagued the Raven’s since May starting with Terrel Suggs’ torn Achilles, and since then Ray Lewis and LaDarius Webb have had their season cut short due to injuries.  The banged up Ravens have, however, battled through adversity and have set themselves up for a good playoff spot.  The team will have to continue to rise up together and fight as a team if they want to have a run at the Lombardi Trophy.
