It may not have been the prettiest game, but the New York Jets figured out a way to get the win.
After scoring zero points in the first half for the second straight week the Jets came out in the second half with a plan and stuck to it. That plan was to run, run and run some more.
Both of New York’s running backs got into the end zone on their way to a 17-10 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shonn Greene carried the ball 20 times for 77 yards and Powell chipped in with 78 yards on 19 rushes.
Even though Mark Sanchez had a mediocre day, Rex Ryan decided to stick with him the entire game. The quarterback completed 12 of 19 passes for 111 yards, but lost a fumble in the first half which resulted in a Jacksonville field goal.
The Jaguars may not have one of the better offenses in the NFL, but the Jets’ defense looked great all day. They were flying around the field and made big plays when it counted. Chad Henne was constantly under pressure and as a result was sacked three times and threw two interceptions, one to Bart Scott and another to Ellis Lankster which sealed the deal for the Jets.
New York went back to their bread and butter, rushing the ball and playing tough defense, and it worked out for them. At 6-7 they’re only a game out of the second wild card spot and have a favorable remaining schedule. It’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks.
