The Minnesota Vikings might not make the playoffs, but the Chicago Bears might be in bigger danger of not making the postseason. The Vikings took down the Bears Sunday, 21-14. There were two continuing themes during the game. 1) Jay Cutler was being hit hard and often. 2) Adrian Peterson was running hard and fast. AD might not win awards this year, but he might rush for 2000 angry yards. It’s truly a treat to watch this guy play. I make references to Walter Payton, and there is no bigger complement I can pay. AP is a treasure and one can only hope that he is rewarded. I’m sure he would prefer a playoff berth over any trophy.
The Vikings D hit Cutler hard from the start. When it comes down to it, that is the key to beating the Bears. Cutler may be tough, but he is also subject to making bad decisions when under pressure. Even as AP rushed for 154 yards, the reason Minnesota won the game was their defense. They turned Chicago over twice which resulted in 14 points. Oh, and by the way, Cutler didn’t finish the game due to the punishment delivered by Jared Allen and Co.
So now with three weeks left in the Season, the Vikings still have a chance to make the playoffs. I guess that is what every fan wants. But the question for fans is Ponder. He is bad. He is inconsistent. On the good side, he is engaged to a beautiful ESPN reporter in Samantha Steele. On the bad side he is still Christian Ponder. The Vikings cannot win with him, they can only try to survive. Minnesota is not dead yet in terms of the playoffs, but how far can they go with a guy that consistently passes for under 100 yards.
