When the Caps have an off period it seems to be insurmountable

Although the Caps won in overtime tonight against the Florida Panthers 6-5, period-wise they went 1-1-1, they lost the first period, tied in the second and won the third. In total for the season after tonight, in terms of periods, Washington has won fifteen periods, lost sixteen, and tied eight, why are they only 4-8-1 on the year right now? Apparently the amount of periods lost has a goal differential that is so vast that it makes it difficult for the Caps to stay in the game.
The Caps have started their first winning streak of the season with this win making it two in a row. This was the also the first time this season anyone including the Panthers had scored five or more goals in the BB&T Arena. Washington won their first overtime game of the season as well as their first road game thanks to Right Wing Troy Brouwer’s one-on-one goal 32 seconds into the overtime period, Brouwer had two goals in last Saturday’s shutout victory over the Panthers.
Capitals Center Mike Ribeiro and Captain Right Winger Alex Ovechkin each had power play goals in this contest which makes it the fifth straight game with a power play goal for the Caps this season. The last time this was achieved was during the time period of December 30, 2011- January 7, 2012 in which they went 5 for 7 on power plays. Four of Ovechkin’s five goals this season so far have been on power plays.
Washington heads back on the road again for their next game but it won’t be much of a road trip as they are staying in the state of Florida to play Tampa Bay. The game is Thursday 7:30pm, this will be the second time the Caps and Lightning have faced each other. You might remember the Lightning giving the Caps a pounding in the season opener back on January 19th by a score of 6-3
