EMU Busted by Missouri State

YPSILANTI —- It is show time here in the friendliest basketball arena in the Mid-American Conference!
Eastern Michigan University and Missouri State University got together early Saturday afternoon as a part of the 2013 Ramada Worldwide Bracket Buster that involved many teams from a lot of different conferences.
Missouri State University put together three separate scoring runs in the second half and overcame an 11 point deficit and defeated Eastern Michigan University and busted the bracket with a 57-54, victory over the Eagles
The Eagles had a chance to get the lead back from the Bears with just four seconds left in the game..
Eastern Michigan University trailing the Bears 57-52 when Marcus Marshall got called for a technical foul plus a foul sending J.R. Sims and Antoine Chandler to the line with a chance to make the two free throws but more important the ball would be in Eastern Michigan University possession with just four seconds left in the game.
Sims made his free throws but Chandler missed his free throw attempt but Eastern Michigan University still had a chance getting the ball at half court after the missed technical foul free throw.
The Eagles had trouble getting the ball in and then had trouble securing the ball only to turn the ball over and turn over the win that they thought they had in to a lost.
The reason that Chandler was in the game, the Eagles leading scorer Derek Thompson with 31 seconds left in the game fouled out.
Thompson finish the game on the bench with a towel in his hand and sitting in his chair with his 19 points
The early moments of the game did not go well for the Eagles with the first two possession of the game, the Eagles made two mistakes by the offense and missing a scoring chances.
Luckily for the Eagles, the Missouri State offense could not take advantage of the turnovers.
Sloppy ball handling by the Eagles continued through out the game, Eastern Michigan University committed 16 turnovers and the Bears scored 18 points off of turnovers and the Bears stuck their honey-covered paws inside the pocket of the Eagles for 10 steals.
Murphy sat in his chair and just showed patient in the first half and then suddenly Eagles guards Thompson and Sims found the range and the shots fell through the net.
Sims scored 11 points but he committed three turnovers and only could get to one rebound.
The success of the offense in the first half created the defense for the Eagles, the Bears finished the first half only making six baskets-shooting 28.6 percent in the half.
The start of the second half the Bears put together the first of there runs and scored the first seven points of the second half.
Missouri State University basketball coach Paul Lusk took a deep breath and brought his team back out to the floor to start the second half with a brand new focus.
The Bears scored 36 points in the second half and improved there shooting from the floor hitting 52 percent for the half.
Thompson and Sims felt the flow of the game starting to slip away and Murphy went to the bench and called on Austin Harper to provide some leadership on the court.
Harper did the best he could and sometimes he tried to do too much with one extra pass that missed the target creating a transition basket chance for the Bears.
Harper played 29 minutes and made four turnovers, he did score nine points and he brought in four rebounds
There mental break downs in the middle of the Eagle zone defense and the Bears took control of the middle of the zone and scored 26 points in the paint.
Missouri State University guard Anthony Marshall led the Bears with 16 points and four rebounds.
Eastern Michigan University assistant coach Kevin Mondro said after the game, Eastern Michigan University focus is getting better for the last four games of the season against the opponents in the conference.
Eastern Michigan University next game on the road against Northern Illinois University at the palace of the prairie and the home of the Huskies the Convocation Center in Dekalb, Ill is slated for Wednesday night Feb 27, 2013.
The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CST.
(Ed Note) Due to a family emergency Eastern Michigan University basketball coach Rob Murphy was not able to answer any questions after the game.
