St. Louis is fine franchise to get soul-ful with, Steve. National League standard-bearer. They're in a semi-state of flux right now (let that SF series slip away) but they'll be in the hunt, especially in the woeful NL Central where my Cubs are still strategizing for the future and rest of the bunch tugging tight on the purse strings as usual.

Thanks for the read, comments and good luck with the write.

Steven, your baseball writing talents are truly Ruthian, and although I too am a fan of Henry Aaron, I've never heard the term Aaronian, nor do I ever expect to hear the term Smithian. I can take that guy (barely) in tinctures, because small doses would probably cause my head to explode.

I love that photo of Jidge; although he wasn't pretty, he was still fair enough to save baseball, and the grandeur of his stat-line aside, that alone makes him as great as any player who ever lived.

I absolutely love your last line. There are plenty who could be called the greatest; Babe, Teddy Ballgame, The Mick, Joe Dimaggio, and the list goes on, but none can rightly be called runners up.

I think I'll swing my soul back toward baseball this year, listen to some Card games and concentrate on constitutional issues and my fiction writing. But I'll always find time to drop by and read a few lines of your always well written prose.

Thanks for sharing.
