Clippers Stage Dunkfest, Crush Pistons

Chris Paul scored 20 points to go along with 14 assists and Blake Griffin led the team with 22 points as the L.A. Clippers rolled to an easy 129-97 win over the Detroit Pistons Sunday night at Staples Center.

The game was never truly in doubt, as the Clippers led 32-22 after the first quarter, and took a comfortable 18-point lead into halftime on their way to a season-best 129 points.

Jose Calderon led Detroit with 18 points as the lowly Pistons lost their fifth-consecutive game.

The game was full of highlight-reel plays for L.A., which, for a night, looked a lot like “Lob City” once again.

The most noteworthy play was a second quarter lob from Paul to DeAndre Jordan, who caught the ball and seemingly stretched himself halfway across the paint to finish the dunk over Pistons guard Brandon Knight, who made the unfortunate decision to try and block the shot. Knight was whistled for a foul on the play, to boot.

Here it is:

The dunk was a part of a 28-12 Clipper run that really blew the game open. L.A. led by as many as 26 points in the first half.

Caron Butler left the game in the third quarter with a contusion on his left elbow, but X-rays were negative.

He finished with 10 points and was one of seven Clippers to score in double-figures. The others were Paul, Griffin, Jordan, Matt Barnes, Willie Green and Chauncey Billups.

The Clippers also set their season-high for shooting percentage in a game, making an insane 62 percent of their attempts from the floor.

They outscored Detroit 56-28 in the paint and 22-10 on fastbreak points.

L.A. was without key reserves Jamal Crawford, who missed his second straight game with a sore ankle, and Eric Bledsoe, who was nursing a sore calf.

The Clips improved to 22-7 at home, and they’ll have a couple of days off to prepare for the Memphis Grizzlies to come into Staples Center on Wednesday night. They’re currently one game ahead of Memphis for the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.
