Baltimore to Trade Boldin to San Francisco for 6th Round Pick

If you can’t beat ‘em, get one of them.

It’s been reported (first by the Baltimore Sun) that the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to trade Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 6th round draft pick.

The 32 year old wide receiver was in a contract dispute with the Ravens as the team wanted him to take a significant pay cut. Boldin told USA Today Sports on Saturday  that he was unwilling to do that. Instead, the Super Bowl Champions traded him to the runner up.

While his regular season numbers were possibly sub par as a member of the Ravens, Boldin was a crucial part of the 2012 Ravens Super Bowl Championship team with 6 catches for 104 receiving yards and a touchdown in New Orleans. He had 380 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in this last postseason, including the Super Bowl.

While talking to ESPN, Colin Kaepernick expressed his excitement about the trade.

“If it’s true, it’s a great trade,” Kaepernick said. “We’re happy to have him. Having a play maker like that at receiver is something you always want. It’s another weapon for our offense and our team.”

Boldin’s soon to be ex-teammate Torrey Smith was shocked at the whole thing.

“Anquan Boldin traded to 49ers for a sixth-round pick….WHAT!!!” the Ravens WR tweeted. Smith would later tweet “This business is BS at times”

Boldin was backed by Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco in his contract dispute with the team. As part of that interview with USA Today Sports last weekend, Flacco said about Boldin “Without him, we don’t win the Super Bowl.” Flacco recently agreed to a new contract with the Ravens worth over $120 million over six years.

Boldin has an impressive career so far with 772 receptions, 10,165 receiving yards, and 58 touchdown catches. He has also been named to the pro bowl three times with the most recent trip being in 2008.

As for that squabbled salary that the 49ers do have to absorb, Boldin is scheduled to make $6 million with a $7.531 million cap hit. Boldin still has to pass a physical before the trade can become official.

If the trade does become official under these terms, the 49ers will still have 14 picks in the upcoming draft.
