After not taking care of business tonight against the Hurrincanes at home the Caps enter a series of games where they play six of the next seven games on the road. The Caps this season have a horrible road record, it is 3-7-1, the three wins coming against Southeast Division teams. When facing the rest of the teams in the Eastern Conference on the road they are 0-6-1.

The last meeting between these two teams on Feb. 26th the outcome of the score was reversed with Washington shuting out Carolina 3-0 in Verizon Center, only that time the Canes had their starting goalie Cam Ward between the pipes. This game tonight was one of the most important games for the Caps to win in order to move up in the standings to catch Carolina in hopes of the chance to win the Southeast Division at the end of the season. Carolina’s Riley Nash gave the Caps problems by recording two of Canes four goals to earn them their 15th win of the season.

Washington now drops from third to fourth in the division with this loss as well as Tampa Bay’s 3-2 win over Florida tonight putting the Lightning in third. The Caps now trail Tampa Bay by 2 points, Winnipeg by 5 points and Carolina by 10 points. A small Caps note tonight defencemen Cameron Schilling made his NHL debut for the Caps.

This is the third loss in a row for Washington and their next game will be with these Carolina Hurrincanes only this time in Carolina. The game will be at 7:00 pm ET.
