Diamondbacks Take 2 of 3 From Giants At AT&T

This series seemed to have the San Francisco Giants mounting a comeback at least once per game. Despite all the rallying, the Giants were unable to take the series.

After splitting the first two games of the series with Arizona, the Diamondbacks managed to grab a game three win in 10 innings 3-2. Wil Nieves hit in the winning run for the D’Backs on a sac fly to center which brought home Paul Goldschmidt from third base.

The Giants were able to get the tying run into scoring position in the bottom half of the 10th with a 2-out double by Brandon Belt. Joaquin Arias, who pinched hit for Gregor Blanco to face the left handed Matt Reynolds, failed to bring in Belt grounding out to short to end the contest.

Most of the game was a pitchers duel between Ian Kennedy and Madison Bumgarner. Kennedy pitched 6 plus inning allowing 1 run in the 7 innings with Brandon Crawford hitting a double deep to center to score in Blanco from 1st base.

Bumgarner pitched 7 1/3 innings striking out 7 and allowing 5 hits, 1 walk, and an earned run in the top of the 8th that tied the game at 1-1. A.J. Pollack singled in Gerardo Parra from 2nd base.

Santiago Casilla came in to relieve Bumgarner and got the final two outs of the inning.

Casilla was then relieved by Jose Mijares for the 9th inning and allowed the D’backs to take a 2-1 lead when Gerardo Parra hit in Didi Gregorius from 2nd on a single to left. Sergio Romo would have to come in and get the final out of the inning getting A.J. Pollack to foul out to third.

Brandon Crawford managed to keep the game alive another inning by hitting a solo shot to right field off of David Hernandez, making it his 4th home run of the year. Crawford finished the game going 3-4 with 2 RBI’s.

Buster Posey then pinched hit for the pitcher’s spot a couple batters latter and managed to get a single with 2 outs. He then got to second when Hernandez walked Angel Pagan. Hernandez, however, prevented the winning run from reaching home getting Marco Scutaro to ground out to 2nd.

The magic then ran out in the 10th inning.

There was some magic in game one of the series when Brandon Belt pinched hit a walk off single to left scoring in Andres Torres from second base for a 5-4 Giants win.

Belt was Mr. Clutch the following night as well when he managed to tie the game at 4-4 with a 2-run shot in the 9th inning. It was his first home run of the year. However, the D’backs managed to score 2 runs in the 11th inning thanks to a wild pitch by Casilla allowing Gregorius to score and then Gerardo Parra hitting a double to score in Alfredo Marte. Arizona would win 6-4.

A disappointing series for the Giants as they now leave AT&T for a 6 game road trip that includes three games in Arizona to face the Diamondbacks. But first, they head to San Diego to play the Padres in a three game series starting tomorrow night.

This will be the Giants first trip to San Diego this year but their 2nd series against the Padres as they just finished a three game sweep over San Diego last Sunday. San Francisco’s probables for this weekend are Tim Lincecum (2-0), Barry Zito (3-1), and Ryan Vogelsong (1-1). San Diego’s probables are Andrew Cashner (0-1), Eric Stults (2-2), and Jason Marquis (1-2). Both Lincecum and Zito’s last starts were against the Padres with each one getting credited with a win.
